Ross and Smith islands are really two separate islands belonging to North Island and the two of them together recognized as the Twin Islands. Ross and Smith connected jointly by a natural sand bar to make a unique group of islands. As the island is near Diglipur, one can take the Aerial Bay to reach the Ross and Smith islands by road or around 20 minutes of boat ride will take you to the island. Ross and Smith Islands requires an entry permit from the Forest Office at Diglipur. From Smith Island, you are welcome to enjoy the nature trails reached out till Ross Island through the green tropical jungle.
Water is crystal clear. Sunbathing in Ross and Smith Islands is a superb experience. During high tide, the sand bar vanishes leaving a trail of water between the two islands, and during low tide, the sand bar shows up again making the islands look great. There is a Marine Sanctuary on the island which makes it an ideal spot for spotting wonderful coral reefs and brilliant species from the underwater. The seashore is encircled by tropical forest and is a favored spot for tourists for trekking. The other adventurous water sports activities like Scuba Diving and Snorkeling can also be opted for by the tourists. Ross and Smith islands are home to the Olive Ridley turtles and tourists can even observer the turtle nesting at the right place and right time. Sometimes, the wild elephants also enter from their inhabited forest to the outer world.
How to Reach Ross and Smith Island:
The Veer Savarkar Airport, an International Airport is situated in Port Blair, the entry point to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Port Blair, is well connected with different Indian cities via air. From Port Blair By road, around 191 km from Port Blair to Ross and Smith Islands. But Aerial Jetty is the best spot to take a private boat for Ross and Smith Island.
